Goa became a vibrant hub for robotics, STEM education and youth innovation as the World STEM and Robotics Olympiad (WSRO) National Championship 2026, the 9th edition of the national-level championship, was held on 26 and 27 September 2026 at Peddem Indoor Stadium, Mapusa.
Hosted in Goa by Qurious Mind, the two-day championship brought together 1,200+ participants, 400+ teams and 250+ robots, with participation from more than 12 states and over 82 schools across India. Supported by 250 mentors and teachers, the event also attracted 2,000+ visitors, while the estimated overall turnout exceeded 2,500, including participants, mentors, teachers, parents, spectators and other visitors.
The championship provided a national platform for young learners to showcase their abilities in robotics, science, technology, engineering and mathematics, while encouraging creativity, teamwork, problem-solving and hands-on experimentation.
A National Platform for Young Innovators
The WSRO National Championship 2026 featured 16 robotics and STEM competitions, giving students opportunities to apply their technical knowledge and transform ideas into practical solutions.
The competition programme included a wide range of challenges such as line-following, Robo Race, LEGO-based challenges, Robotics Construction, STEM Balloon Car, Young Scientist and entrepreneurship competitions. A special attraction was the drone-flying competition, which challenged participants to demonstrate precision, control and flying skills.
Alongside the competitions, student exhibitions and project showcases gave young innovators an opportunity to present their ideas, working models and prototypes. These activities created an environment where students could learn from one another, exchange ideas and explore innovative approaches to real-world problems.
The hands-on nature of the championship encouraged participants to build, test, refine and improve their designs while developing practical skills in robotics, engineering and STEM.
Two Days of Competition, Creativity and Learning
The championship opened on 26 September with the inaugural ceremony, followed by qualifying rounds across the various robotics and STEM categories. Student project showcases added another dimension to the event, allowing participants to demonstrate their creativity and technical capabilities. The first day also included a cultural programme, bringing together competition, learning and celebration.
The second day, 27 September, saw the competition intensify as participants progressed through advanced rounds and finals. Students continued to demonstrate technical skills, teamwork, innovation and problem-solving as they competed alongside peers from across the country.
The Young Scientist competition was among the events that continued into the final rounds, providing students with a platform to present and defend their ideas and demonstrate their scientific thinking.
Several students from Goa also secured prizes, adding to the achievements of the host state at the national championship.
Celebrating Achievement and Innovation
The championship concluded with the closing and prize-distribution ceremony, where winners were recognised for their performances across the competition categories.
The opening ceremony was graced by Hon’ble Minister Shri Subhash Shirodkar and Mapusa MLA Shri Joshua D’Souza. Yogesh Kerkar of Qurious Mind welcomed the gathering, while Gopal Maheshwari of WSRO presented a report highlighting the organisation’s activities.
The closing and prize-distribution ceremony was attended by Hon’ble Minister Shri Subhash Shirodkar, Gopal Maheshwari, Devendra Parmar and Dhruv Patel of WSRO.
Nirmesh Tyagi served as Project Director, while Vannella Gore from Hyderabad and Dr. T. L. Vijayalakshmi compered the proceedings. Sachin Shirodkar, Director of Qurious Mind, proposed the vote of thanks and acknowledged the contributions of participants, mentors, teachers, organisers, volunteers and supporters who helped make the championship a success.
A Showcase of 250+ Robots and Young Talent
The scale of the championship was reflected in the number and diversity of projects and robotic systems developed by participating teams.
With 250+ robots showcased and used across the event, students demonstrated how concepts from robotics, engineering and STEM could be transformed into working models and competition-ready systems. From innovative designs and prototypes to robots developed for specific challenges, the projects highlighted the creativity, technical knowledge and practical learning of young participants.
Working through real challenges also encouraged students to develop essential skills such as critical thinking, problem-solving, collaboration, experimentation and perseverance.
Strengthening Robotics and STEM Education in Goa
The participation of more than 1,200 students and participants, along with thousands of visitors and supporters, highlighted the growing interest in robotics, STEM education and technology-driven learning.
By bringing together students, educators, mentors, parents, technology enthusiasts and families from different parts of India, the championship created a shared platform centred around innovation and hands-on education.
The successful hosting of the national championship also strengthened Goa’s role as a venue for STEM and robotics-focused events, demonstrating the value of creating opportunities for young learners to experience technology beyond traditional classroom instruction.
Competitions such as WSRO enable students to move from theoretical understanding to practical application by giving them opportunities to build, test, solve problems, collaborate and innovate.
Qurious Mind’s Commitment to Practical Technology Education
For Qurious Mind, hosting the WSRO National Championship 2026 represented another important step in its efforts to make robotics and technology education accessible, affordable, engaging and practical for young learners.
Through hands-on learning initiatives, Qurious Mind works to create opportunities for students to explore robotics, strengthen STEM skills, develop confidence and gain meaningful exposure to emerging technologies.
The championship reflected this approach by giving learners the opportunity to take their ideas beyond the classroom and demonstrate what they could accomplish through practical experimentation and teamwork.
Building, Creating and Innovating Through STEM
The WSRO National Championship 2026 in Goa brought education, technology and youthful innovation together on one national platform.
Across two days, more than 1,200 participants, 400+ teams, 250+ robots and representatives from over 82 schools and more than 12 states came together to compete, collaborate, create and learn.
The championship was not only about winning competitions. It was also about encouraging young people to explore ideas, learn through experimentation, work as teams and turn concepts into practical solutions.
